What are the Cheapest Donations and Cheapest Investments for the Portugal Golden Visa in 2024?
In today’s video, we examine the cheapest routes to access Portugal’s Golden Visa. The cheapest donation route into the Portugal Golden Visa is, of course, at a much lower price point than the cheapest investment. A donation implies that you will not see that money again once it has been spent, whereas an investment implies a return of capital and usually some kind of ROI.
As it stands, the cheapest effective donation in Portugal currently requires a sunk upfront cost of €168,000. This is a new option that we have only just finalized. It is not technically a donation, but rather a private finance arrangement using mutual funds at a cost to the investor of €168,000 – which is far more financially prudent that the formal donation of €250,000. However, the investment journey is, to all intents and purposes, the same as the formal donation.
The benefits of a donation (or effective donation) are that, whilst there is no financial return, this means you do not need to worry about risk. It’s also a very easy to understand model. The onward journey to full Portuguese citizenship is identical to the investment route, with the same processing timelines and requirements.

The cheapest investment for the Portugal Golden Visa currently, at least to my knowledge, stands at an entry point of €325,000 capital required. This is the Royal Obidos Spa & Golf Resort. It’s a secured investment that aims to mitigate risk as far as possible, and offers a healthy profit profile in addition to qualifying you for dual Portuguese Citizenship.
